Females With A Mission Radio is a show designed to help women across America realize there is a special something within them that makes them special. The show is designed to profile women who have made it there business to “be on a mission” to fulfill their dreams and live purposeful lives.

What made you decide to pursue being a radio host?

Radio is my background. I received my degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Radio/TV broadcasting from Jackson State University. While in college, I began working in radio and I had so much fun. I worked at a radio station in Jackson, Mississippi called KIXIE 107.5 FM. After college in 1993, I returned home to Atlanta to take a job at WIGO 1340 AM. I was working as a news reporter. That job was short lived because I came to work one day, actually three months after I had started, and the doors to the station were bolted and the radio station had been shut down. From there, I tapped into my minor degree, which was English, and I began teaching.

What do you enjoy about the Blogtalk Radio Platform?

I’ll be honest. I have never really explored other avenues. Blog Talk Radio was just the one I found first, after deciding to get back into radio. There are a lot of platforms out there. I do like that other people from around the world can pick up my podcasts from itunes absolutely FREE.

What are your other favorite social media platforms and why?

Right now I am visibly on Facebook with a fan page, LinkedIn, Google+, and Twitter. It’s a lot of work to manage them all but I have to say, I like Facebook and Twitter the most. I am still trying to master how to engage my Facebook following, however, Twitter is just as fun and interactive, too. The main thing to remember with social media is to be patient with yourself and focus on your goal not everyone else’s goal; that can be a distraction and it can be discouraging. Social Media is a bit of a learning curve for me, but I believe if you are wiling to learn, you can succeed at anything.

Karey, tell us about yourself and your business.

I am a married mom to four children and I’m an Independent Consultant for Blessings Unlimited. Blessings Unlimited brings beautiful faith inspired house wares, kitchen ware, gifts, cards and more. Blessings Unlimited is owned by Dayspring, which also has the backing of being owned by Hallmark.

What services do you offer?

We offer home-based parties which we call gatherings. We show many of our items and allow the guests to have the option of purchasing. We also offer women the ability to join our company and start their own Blessings Unlimited business. Being an independent consultant allows women to manage their own business and share their faith. Our mission is to pursue the heart of God and bring blessings to others.

What are your favorite social media platforms and why?

I suppose my favorite is Facebook. I like it because its easy to use, everyone is on it. Facebook offers a variety of uses and ease of advertising. I have started learning to use Hootsuite and I like it. I love how they provide the Hoote University to teach their system. I use StumbleUpon and have just started with Google+ but no one I know is over there yet.

1) Email

Email is still the most popular form of electronic communication and some individuals prefer to read RSS feeds in their inbox. Popular places that send feeds via email are feedblitz.com and feedburner.com. If you check closely, some of your favorite bloggers use these sources.

2) Twitter

I have my blog set-up to automatically to post a tweet when I publish a blog post. My  Twitter followers can see my blog posts (rss feed) in the timeline immediately after they are published. If you are a blogger, I highly recommend using a service like Twitterfeed.com or Hootsuite.com. Also, since Twitter added “Lists,” savvy tweeps can really use Twitter to keep up with their favorite blogs without having to wade through the “noise.”

3) Facebook

I don’t care for many of the FB apps, but I highly recommend using Networked Blogs app. Since you are probably hanging out each day on Facebook, it makes sense to make this a central location to read blogs. If you are a blogger, I wrote a post awhile back that shows you How to Connect Facebook to Your Blog.
